Project Information:
The architecture of this proposal takes inspiration from the agricultural aesthetic that can be found in other buildings within Hinxton and nearby converted barns. The material palette consists of an elegant treatment of slate and pantile roofs with timber cladding and buff brick walls.
There was an existing 15m x 5m single storey brick building on the site, of low architectural quality, and thus was proposed to be demolished, with the new dwelling built in its place. The proposed building follows an L-shaped footprint that is centrally positioned on site, allowing for sufficient space between the building and its boundaries.
The building form is made up of a 1-and-a-half storey central volume with single storey lean-to's on either end of the gable. A single storey cart-shed garage featuring integrated PV panels is positioned parallel to the front facing lean-to on Hunts Lane, helping to establish a close feel and intimate experience travelling down Hunts Lane.
With regards to landscaping and ecology, a new orchard is proposed in the north-east segment of the site, fruit trees to the north-west, and mixed native hedgerows that help to maintain privacy along the west and north boundaries of the site.
