Project Information:
The architectural language for this dwelling was derived from the agri-vernacular style and the use of natural materials helps the proposal to sympathetically merge into the wooded site and respond to its architectural context.
The dwelling is comprised of one single-storey gable ended volume with a plan form that weaves in and out of the existing trees. It has been meticulously designed to ensure the existing character of the site was retained through the appropriate use of materiality, scale, and massing. Floor-to-ceiling glazing along with a glass roofed entrance hall brings users closer to nature and helps to better engage them within their surroundings and the adventurous experience of this site.
A key architecture feature is the hit and miss timber cladding that runs over the windows of the dormitory wing. The hit and miss cladding design functions as vertical louvre's that help to reduce overheating, improve privacy in spaces such as bedrooms, and cast interesting shadows within the internal spaces.
