Project Information:
Swallows Rest is a 7-unit housing scheme located in the picturesque village of Woodditton, in East Cambridgeshire. The proposed development is landscape-led with existing trees and vegetation retained and enhanced where feasible - to improve access to nature as well as biodiversity. This is further enriched by designated ecological enhancement areas to the northern and southern boundaries of the site.
The architectural language for this proposal is derived from both the ‘New England’ and ‘Scandinavian’ style of dwelling, featuring overhanging gabled roof forms, dormer windows, symmetrically positioned white-painted timber sash windows, red brick chimney stacks and wrap-around verandas that overlook the shared access drive and areas of soft landscaping. The verandas act as both a means for solar shading as well as providing areas for outdoor living that affords better opportunity for interaction between neighbours.
The playful use of coloured timber cladding gives each dwelling a unique character that adds diversity to the street scene whilst instilling a strong sense of place.
