PiP were appointed to undertake a detailed design to provide an even mix of two, three and four bed units within Pettitt’s Close site. The proposal consists of three different house which aim to replicate the traditional housing hierarchy found within the village, whilst also reflecting the density of housing in the surrounding area.
A contemporary approach to the design of the units granted us more flexibility with the massing and allowed the units to respond to their context in a more sensitive manner. The design creates opportunities for community within the scheme, incorporating shared spaces with boundaries between plots defined by close boarded fencing with substantial green hedgerow planting.
The design is highly efficient, both in terms of building types and energy use, while still including dwellings with views focused on the surrounding landscape. Traditional materials have been used which have a proven longevity and low maintenance. Living rooms are positioned with a southerly aspect to take advantage of solar gains.
