Project Information:
Lynewode Road is a residential project located in the Newtown and Glisson Road Conservation Area in Cambridge. The house, along with all houses along Lyndewode Road, is considered to be a building important to the local character. The rear extension has been thoughtfully designed and finished with materials that complement its existing character.
The left side of the extension features a flat roof with tall, floor-to-roof bi-folding doors that serve as a striking design element, flooding the interior with natural light and seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor spaces. A sedum roof adds a vibrant view from inside the house and offers environmental and sustainable benefits. The right side of the extension features a mono-pitched roof with a timber bench sitting over a planted area that extends from the interior. Bi-fold windows enhance the connection between the interior and exterior, creating a unique design feature and a cozy seating spot.
Internally, the extension features vaulted ceilings with exposed timber rafters and roof lights that add character and a sense of spaciousness. Vertical brick is carried into parts of the interior, enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. An open plan configuration creates a roomy and flexible space, and a built-in bench serves as seating for the dining table and adjoins the bi-fold window seat to provide a bespoke and functional design element. Sliding panels for the tv cabinet in the playroom/snug improve space flexibility, allowing for the room to easily switch between a playroom during the day and a cozy snug at night.
This project also includes upgrades to the rear garden space, re-landscaping it to better suit the family's needs, providing a functional and attractive outdoor space that also accommodates a new garden studio with sliding corner windows that allow abundant natural light and contribute to a modern aesthetic.
