Project Information:
The proposal is for a two-storey, four bedroom detached dwelling on what is currently a vacant site, with associated landscaping and parking arrangements. Tucked away from the road, the design is subtle and uses proportions and detailing which create an elegant design. The materials, scale and massing draw upon the dwelling’s existing context to present a high quality design that enhances its environment and re-uses an otherwise derelict plot, while taking into account the needs of the family living there.
The client brief was to create a sustainable, modern family home for their young family to suit their lifestyle and needs. They stipulated a quiet, peaceful dwelling, with generous, flexible living spaces. The site is approximately 0.25 acres, set back from the road and accessed via a long driveway. It is currently vacant, where its previous use as a builders’ yard ceased several years ago.
Designed to Passivhaus standards, the clients were keen that the dwelling be as environmentally friendly as possible. The use of renewable technologies will allow the home to meet part of its energy demand, reducing its carbon footprint. The proposal also includes the use of renewable technologies such as PV panels and Air Source Heat Pumps.
