Our client purchased the site along Coleridge Road with permission for a single bungalow and through careful negotiation with the planning department to produce three two-bedroom terrace units on what was rear garden land off Coleridge Road.
Ashbury Close presents a scheme that successfully responds to the vernacular of the area while also catering for modern standards of living. We were able to intensify and maximise the potential of the site and it was established early on during the design process that there is an existing strong design concept within Ashworth Park.
With the 1930’s semi-detached houses along Coleridge Road, there is a real sense of design, interlocking each pocket of housing with open green space, continuing the theme throughout the estate. We continued the simple form by creating uncomplicated facades using composite casement windows and relocating one of the front doors to the side to create a simplistic street frontage. A projecting flat roofed bay between plot 1 & 2 reinforces the design by matching the projecting bays opposite with a cedar cladding it provides a sustainable solution. Modest rear gardens will cater for modern living requirements along with open plan living spaces and full width patio doors take full advantage of the afternoon sun.
