Project Information:
PiP Architecture applied for and was granted a change of use on this brownfield site in the sought-after village of Great Shelford. This development features 10 contemporary family homes. Part of the brief was to deliver buildings with a recognisable architectural character that deliver a strong visual message and help to reinforce the local and varied identity of the area.
These well-proportioned family dwellings provide a pleasant pocket community off Shelford Road. The front plot responds to the varied house styles along the area and concentrates on scale and massing to become a positive addition within its context. The internal spaces have been designed with flexible family use in mind, with open dining/kitchen/living areas on the ground floor and bedroom accommodation at first floor level and within the loft space. To aid in privacy, louvered devices were adopted to the rear bedroom windows of plots 2 and 3.
The design looked to use a mixture of modern and traditional materials in a contemporary manner whilst utilising recognisable language, articulation and proportions. Multi dark brown and weathered grey brickwork with off white mortar were used as the primary material with powder coated composite window frames and doors set back into their reveals, along with matching rainwater goods.
