Project Information:

These two substantial family homes in the popular village of Girton are contemporary in style and constructed in modern materials such as zinc roofing and composite windows. The highly constrained site previously housed a single bungalow and PiP Architecture was able to incorporate low roof pitches to reduce any impacts on the neighbouring amenity spaces.

Bandon Road is an area of varied architectural style which represents a wide palette of materials and diverse forms. The design respects the local vernacular whilst responding to the constraints of the site. The two dwellings were orientated to address the end of the cul-de-sac. The corner windows encourage natural surveillance of the passageway to the boundary.

Forms and massing remain very similar to the context, ensuring continuity of design throughout the site. The varied rooflines are intended to respond to the mixed forms found along Bandon Road whilst the 1 ½ storey side extension maintains a sense of openness between the units and vista towards Huntingdon Road. This reduced overshadowing or sense of overlooking to the neighbouring property.
