Project Information:
The site has been vacant since 1991 with a predominant two storey building occupying the majority of the site. The proposal seeks to demolish this building and to allow for the erection of 14No. detached/semi-detached 2,3&4 Bedroom dwellings with associated parking, access and landscaping.
The landscape strategy for this development is to provide an appropriate setting for the buildings, a pleasant garden space for the residents and to be of benefit to wildlife. To provide adequate separation and integration to the common. A space to be used.
Materials have been selected which match the local palette but also provide a low maintenance and sustainable alternative. We have been working closely with Durisol to us their pioneering woodcrete – recycled waste wood blocks which is chipped into wood fibre before being mineralised and bonded together with cement. Corner windows provide a contemporary solution which increases natural surveillance and outlook.
The proposal is intended to enhance the existing streetscape, and the public realm, by replacing a poor quality frontage with a high quality positive built form that draws upon the local vernacular whilst providing high quality and sustainable living. New pedestrian/cycle links will connect in to Chisholm Trail.
The scheme also provides an opportunity to provide an innovative solution which addresses the common and greenbelt that can be enjoyed by both occupants and passers-by whilst integrating itself with the local wildlife and enhancing both ecology and biodiversity.
It is hoped this scheme will provide a small but significant contribution to new housing in the City by re-using previously developed (Brownfield) land in a more efficient way.
